As you may know Holland lies mainly below sea level, which made us quite good at managing water. Here I think we find the ultimate combination of two Dutch specialties: agriculture and maritime technology. The floating farm offers us the possibility to not only farm on the land, but also on the water. This summer, a pilot location will be build in Rotterdam, one of the largest cities of the Netherlands.
The farm will be producing and selling products as a normal farm, but also focuses on animal welfare and education. The farm is designed as a cow garden, to create a natural environment. Also visitors can see how the cows are being milked and what happens with the milk after.
The floating farm is developed by three organizations:
- Uit je eigen stad
More information on their (Dutch) website: floatingfarm.nl/
We for one are very interested and would like to see it when it's done.
