Milking rotaries in China

Video 5 in our series about the big Chinese farm. Here we see the milking rotaries. They have 8 rotaries for 80 cows. Every rotary milks 2.500 cows a day! Floor is done with rubber. Also look around: cross ventilation, footbaths and hooftrimming. They produce high quality milk, very impressive.

Please let us know what you think!

Great short summary video clip, thanks. In NZ they have double entry to rotaries to reduce loading hold-ups as one cow can "block" entry.

Hi Christian, Thanks for sharing! Do you perhaps have a video or photo as an example? I think people will like that! You can send it to: info@cowsignals.com. Thanks!

You noted that the farm produces high quality milk. It is my understanding the Chinese milk processors are pushing hard on Chinese dairies to get their SCC under control by June. How many cows are dumped each day to get the bulk SCC down and what is the cull/replacement/slaughter rate on this farm - how many cows leave the farm each year to achieve the quality milk?

Hi Mohammed, that is inconvenient! Do you have access to Facebook? All the videos we post here, we post at Facebook as well.

Second option is our free video account. These videos are hosted on our website and should be available. Not to same videos but interesting as well! Go to 'video courses' at the top of this page and sign up for a free account.

Good luck!

In this farm they have soft big beds and good ventilation. Then you see very low mastitis rates and cell count.
This farm is 150.000 cells, excellent for a large farm.
Smaller farms can often be under 100.000 cells. Limit in many countries is 400.000 but above 250.000 is already a sign of infection...
The beds are filled with dried solids 3 x per day. Excellent management.
Short milking times, lots of resting time is the big success factor.
