Feed colostrum right away! An half hour makes the difference

Pieter Kuijer is a succesfull farmer here in the Netherlands and is ecxellent at calf care. He shares his best advice for feeding colostrum:

"We always feed 4 liters of colostrum within the first half hour. Almost all calves drink it all willingly from a teat. If you do it an hour later, we experience a lot more trouble with drinking".

Pieter's farm will be used for a YoungStock Signals workshop with Trouw Nutrition.

We have a similar problems with not enough colostrum from fresh cows and heifers. What causes low colostrum yield ? it wasn't because the cow wasn't letting her milk down either... We had 5 cows in a row and then the problem went away.
Thoughts?

If we feed colostrum more than 2 litters to a new born calf, the calf's stomach gets upset. What should be the reason?

Interseting!
Prevent stress! Heifers 2 months before calving between cows.
Stress free calving line, cuddle box!

Temporary: Calcium level/ feed quality dip?

It won't. She will drink voluntary 3,5 liters if you feed it within a half hour after calving
