This is what's going on:

Big momma is blocking the passage.
The heifer wants to go and eat, but it’s a dead end row and she can only go out through this passage. Another dominant cow is blocking her way to the feed. Cow’s should always have an escape route!

What can we do to prevent this?

There should be a second crossover alley to allow through traffic for other cattle that want to cross if there is a dominant cow blocking the path.
